Those who follow the Facebook page know I have been on the hunt for a narrator for the film. My top choices have always been a tie between Mike Rowe, and Trace Adkins. While Mr Rowe’s people have told me that he normally comes in at the end, I’m hoping someone will see what we’re doing here and the massive amount of unknowns that go with this movie, ESPECIALLY when everything hinges on Sam’s health.
I have rough cuts done of a few segments dealing with my past in wrestling and the hardest part of the film; The night Samantha was born.
While I want to give as much video updates to you folks as I can, I can’t give out major parts, especially when they’re not final. I’m going to try and put together a clip mashing the two topics and have it up by the end of the week.
Todays update showcases one of the goals I had for the film when ideas really started flowing. That was, I wanted as much original music as possible. I found Lonna Marie, advertising her services on Fiverr and after listening to a few songs on YouTube I contacted her. I wanted a song that captured the true essence of the film, and I think she nailed it.
Well I posted an update to YouTube and the Facebook page but like an may-roon I didn’t post the update here. This is what I call, “Daddy’s Eye View.” It is a camera strapped to my head showing highlights of lunchtime ritual. This version won’t be in the film but I’m not ruling out another version in the future. I need more practice and know how to polish the footage.
I did a whole sequence covering frustrations with vacations and road trips. This segment covers the first time my wife and I got away on a vacation without kids. We had not been able to do that since Sam was born six years earlier. It was a vacation that was badly needed.
This is just a rough cut of some footage shot at the Outer Banks last weekend. No transitions, or sound, because the finish plan is now to use just small portions of it with clips from other family outings along with narrative.
Wanted to update folks who don’t use the Facebook page. I experimented with a GoPro yesterday using the head mount to record Sam’s lunchtime ritual. Didn’t quite go as planned. Head over to the Facebook page and you’ll see what I mean.
Very dissapointing with the footage from the Outer Banks. Showed it to the pro who I had by the house and he pointed out it was a perfect way to show how when we go to the beach as a family we’re seperated by Sam’s wheelchair and sand. I did a rough cut and took the sound out. There will either be music or narration should that make the film. It’s a tad long but like I said its rough. I’ll upload it shortly.
I’ve reached out to a VERY experienced director of photography to see about shooting two staged scenes. I’ve also put out a casting call to fill the roles in the scenes I want to shoot. Scared to see what the rates are but hey, that’s what fundraising was for.
As we pack the van up for a day trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina I wanted to give a quick update. The radio taping for bbc radio went great and I’m told the show will air over five days. I feel stupid because I had my camera setup to record my end of it and THOUGHT I hit the record button. Whoops. When I hung up the phone I noticed no red light on the camera and wanted to smack myself. Lesson learned I guess.
Have my camera today plus a contingent of small GoPros to capture today’s events. Should be a good production update for tomorrow of Monday at the latest.
Also, the situation with my sons school was resolved very amicably and I even have permission from the local coliseum to film the movie at the Disney on Ice field trip as long as I keep the camera pointed at Sam and I and dont bring any distracting lights. Not a problem.
All proceeds from donations will be used for expenses associated with producing the film. Primarily, they will be put into an escrow account and used once the film is complete for marketing and DVD producing. Should the film actually be "picked up" proceeds will go into Samantha's foundation that will be formed next year.
